Apreche commented on What's The Most Reliable Game Hardware Ever?

GameBoys and DSes are by far the most reliable machines out there. You've all seen the GameBoy that survived a war, right? The SNES or N64 were probably the most reliable home consoles. My Genesis doesn't work anymore, but I've never seen a broken SNES.

Also, back in '99ish I had an Intel 440BX6r2.0 motherboard with a Pentium 3 450mhz PCU and an Nvidia TNT2. It ran Windows 98SE, and never crashed. Most reliable computer ever.

GC Mega Man compilation is the way to go. It's so much cheaper than the VC. Same goes for Mega Man X and Sonic GC compilations. Really, the VC is the most expensive legal way to get an old game, and should only be used when there is no other option.

Apreche commented on The Ballad of "Robert Jones": Arcade Tickets Were His Currency

It's math time.

Let's be conservative and say the game costs 50 cents to play. D+B is fairly overpriced. He needs a million tickets, and he wins 100 every time. That means he has to play the game 10,000 times. I guess I can believe someone can do it in three days if they don't have to do anything else. The final price will be $5,000.00 for a brand new Harley Davidson, assuming they actually awarded the prize. Dependin on the bike, he's going to double his money at least. $5,000 in three days. If he did this every single day, he would make $608,333.33 in one year.

This is why casinos only have games of chance, and never have games of skill.

Apreche commented on What's The Scariest Game You've Ever Played?

As a kid, Zelda 1. The whole game isn't scary, but the northwest part of the overworld map is. The music in the final dungeon also scared me as a kid. The second quest was even more frightening because of its unfamiliarity. You get so used to the first quest that while the second quest is similar, but different, it gives you the heebie jeebies.

Apreche commented on Microsoft Unveils PAX Schedule

I'm not Microsoft, so my announcement power is restricted to comments instead of posts. I would just like to take this opportunity to invite you Kotaku peeps to come to my panel. At PAX on Saturday at 6PM in the Wolfman Theatre come see my co-host and I present "Beyond Dungeons and Dragons". You like all the cool indie video games, why not check out some indie tabletop RPGs? Much awesome will be had.

Even if you don't come to my panel, I hope to meet many awesome people at PAX this weekend. It will be my first trip West of the Mississippi, so I'm feeling pretty good about it.

My real guess is we'll see a puzzle game. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine vs. Dr. Mario.

So technically I can't buy an unrated independent PC game online in NY?

The ESRB clearly states that all online content is unrated. Are online games not not allowed to be sold in NY? That even includes stuff like Dr. Mario Rx.
